Daily Contacts

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Daily disposable contact lenses are single-use, designed to be replaced after one day of wear to maintain clear, hygienic and comfortable vision. Often referred to as ‘dailies’, these lenses are individually packaged in saline solution so they can be worn for as long as 16 hours per day, depending on the brand, before being disposed of.

What are the Benefits of Daily Contact Lenses?

Dailies provide much more convenience and speed than monthly lenses, as there is no cleaning required – simply take out a fresh pair of lenses each day and throw the old pair away once you’re done wearing them. This removes the need for buying additional cleaning solutions and storage containers and because they’re packaged individually, they’re great for travelling and taking with you on the go. Because dailies are often slightly thinner than monthlies, they are incredibly comfortable to wear and you’ll barely notice you’re wearing them – silicone hydrogel lenses, in particular, are designed to retain moisture, making them a comfortable lens to wear for long periods.

One of the main benefits of daily lenses, aside from the convenience they provide, is that they deliver exceptional clarity and clear vision for a consistent performance. The longer you wear lenses, the more likely it is that protein deposits will build up on the surface of the lens, and even with cleaning they don’t always feel the same as when you first wear them. With dailies, this isn’t an issue as you wear a fresh pair each day and if you switch from monthly lenses to dailies, chances are you’ll notice this difference. Dailies deliver consistently crisp and clear vision throughout the day, which is one of the reasons why so many people opt for these types of lenses.

They also reduce the risk of eye infections developing as each pair of lenses is clean and free from any potential bacteria. If you’re someone who only wears contact lenses on occasion, such as for sport or going out, then daily lenses are a more cost-effective option. With these types of lenses, you can leave days or even weeks between wear without any risk of your lenses deteriorating. However, if you’re someone who prefers to wear lenses every day, monthly contacts are likely to be a better choice. We stock a wide variety of daily lenses, from brands such as Acuvue, Clariti, Dailies, ProClear and many more.

A Few Things to Remember

When opting for daily lenses, there are a couple of things to bear in mind. The first is that daily wear doesn’t mean that you can sleep in your lenses. These types of lenses haven’t been approved for extended wear, so they need to be removed before you go to sleep each night, otherwise you risk infection and damage to the eyes. The second thing to remember is that disposable doesn’t always mean single-use in the world of contact lenses, so you may find that two-weekly lenses are also sometimes called disposable. When choosing dailies that are removed after just one day of wear, the term ‘daily disposables’ specifically means they are removed and discarded on a daily basis.

Choosing the Right Daily Lenses

Dailies can be used to help correct a variety of vision problems, from myopia and hyperopia to presbyopia and astigmatism. The type of lenses you choose will depend on a number of factors – for example, if you suffer with dry or irritated eyes on a regular basis, choosing a lens that is hydrating and retains moisture will help ensure your lenses remain comfortable throughout the day.

Likewise, if you’re someone who spends a lot of time outdoors, choosing a lens that includes UV blocking technology can help to alleviate some of the damage caused by sunlight. Some dailies also have handling tints which helps you to ensure you’re putting them in the right way around for added convenience – a great feature if you’re new to wearing contact lenses.

Types of Daily Contact Lens

There are several types of daily contact lens on the market to tackle different vision problems, while also providing exceptional clarity and comfort. These include:

Myopia and Hyperopia – For both short-sightedness and long-sightedness, comfort and clear vision are the main features that daily lenses need to have. Many brands are made from silicone hydrogel to provide plenty of breathability and a wetter lens surface to keep the eyes healthy and lubricated throughout the day. One of the most popular brands of daily lenses is the 1 Day Acuvue Moist lenses which have a unique LACERON technology that makes them comfortable all day long.

Astigmatism – For people trying to correct astigmatism, standard contact lenses are likely to feel unsecure on the eye as they require specially-designed lenses that fit the shape of the eyes better. These are known as toric lenses and come in a variety of options, including daily lenses. Brands such as the Clariti 1 Day Toric Lenses are made from silicone hydrogel for extra comfort and breathability, along with an aspheric back surface which helps to optimise the position of the lens for additional clarity.

Presbyopia – For those struggling to maintain focus at different distances, multifocal lenses are the best option. These lenses are the equivalent of bifocal or varifocal glasses and can be prescribed to correct age-related presbyopia. The Proclear 1 Day Multifocal contact lenses help to optimise vision for close objects and those in the distance for a natural vision experience, while also helping to tackle dry eyes even after 12 hours of wear.

What is the Cost of Daily Lenses?

While daily lenses often have a reputation for being pricey, many people are surprised by how affordable they can be. Dailies are slightly more expensive than monthly lenses, as the cost of using 730 lenses each year is pricier than using just 24 monthly lenses. But the cost varies drastically between brands and the type of materials used for the lenses.

‘Premium’ daily lenses are usually made from silicone hydrogel as they provide more benefits in terms of breathability and comfort, so these lenses may cost more than those made from standard lens materials. However, with dailies, the convenience often outweighs the slight increase in cost for most people who wear them and if you’re someone who wears lenses infrequently, you’re likely to find them a more cost-effective option than monthlies.

Popular Daily Lenses

The Biotrue ONEday lenses have an innovative bio-inspired HyperGel material with a 3-Zone progressive strip technology which provides improved clarity for the wearer, regardless of the distance they’re trying to focus at. Dailies Aqua Comfort Plus Multifocal Lenses

These multifocal lenses from Alcon/CIBA Vision have three moisturising agents, including a new Blink Activated Moisture Technology which provides small amounts of moisture to the lens each time you blink, so they remain comfortable all day long. This feature makes them particularly beneficial to people suffering with dry eyes.

The Clariti 1 Day Toric lenses have been specifically designed to deliver more security and a better fit for people with astigmatism.
